Material and Classification

· Material: It mainly includes neutral glass, barium-containing glass, and zirconium-containing glass. Neutral glass is a type of low-borosilicate glass with good chemical stability. Barium-containing glass has good alkali resistance, and zirconium-containing glass has excellent resistance to both acids and alkalis.

· Classification: According to the color, it can be divided into colorless transparent and amber types. The amber-colored ones can filter out ultraviolet rays, making them suitable for containing photosensitive drugs. According to the style, it is divided into necked ampoules and powder ampoules. Powder ampoules have been basically phased out. Necked breakable ampoules are further divided into scored neck breakable ampoules and color ring breakable ampoules.

 

There is three different type of glass defined by USP/EP, type I, type II, type III.

Type I: borosilicate glass

Type II: treated type III glass

Type III: Soda-lime glass

 

While for moulded vials there are soda-lime glass in use, while most ampules manufacturers already aborted type II and/or type III glass.

But USP type I glass, there are some difference to tell: light-borosilicate glass, neutral borosilicate glass, high borosilicate glass.

Light borosilicate glass is on China was trying to produce neutral, but Hamag Group was not able to develop technology at that time.

All other glass forming companies are coming to purchase from Hamag Group. a long queue of trucks aside the road of our factory.

 

Some people is using high-borosilicate glass tubing to substitute neutral glass ampoules and vials. which is still workable, but not match quality control standard. Hamag Group is long history company who treasure reputation a lot. only supply products on agree quality level and conditions.

 

Specifications and Capacity

Common capacity specifications of glass ampoules include 1mL, 2mL, 5mL, 10mL, and 20mL, etc., which can meet the requirements of different drug dosages.

Features and Advantages

· Good Sealing Performance: The glass material and sealing process ensure that the drug does not come into contact with the outside air, preventing the drug from oxidation and deterioration. For example, some oxidizable injection agents packaged in glass ampoules can have an extended shelf life.

· High Chemical Stability: Different glass ampoule materials can adapt to the acidity and alkalinity of a variety of drugs. During long-term contact with the liquid medicine, there will be no phenomena such as shedding, degradation, and substance migration.

· Excellent Transparency: The colorless transparent ampoules are beneficial for the clarity inspection of the liquid medicine, making it convenient to observe whether there are quality problems such as precipitation and turbidity in the drug.

· Good Heat Resistance: It can withstand the pressure difference generated during autoclaving, as well as the temperature shock during the washing and sterilization processes, and is not prone to cold explosion and breakage.

Structure and Principle

· Color Ring Necked Breakable Ampoules: A low-melting-point powder with a coefficient of expansion twice that of the ampoule glass is fused and fixed at the neck of the ampoule to form a ring. After cooling, a permanent stress is generated at the ring part, and it can be broken off neatly with a little force, and it is not easy to produce glass debris.

· Scored Neck Breakable Ampoules: There is a fine score at the neck part, and a color dot with a diameter of 2mm is marked at the center of the score. When breaking it, apply force to the back of the middle of the score, and the broken section should be flat.

Production Process

· Tube Making: The glass raw materials are processed through high-temperature melting, tube drawing, and other processes to make glass tubes.

· Molding: The glass tubes are processed through cutting, heating, blowing, and other processes to form the body and neck shapes of the ampoules.

· Sealing: A high-temperature melting sealing technology is used to seal the ampoule mouth to ensure the sealing performance.

Scope of Application

· Packaging for Injectables: Widely used for the packaging of various injectable drugs, such as antibiotics, vitamins, biological agents, etc.
